There may be a case for extending the furlough scheme beyond April

On the 3rd March the Chancellor Rishi Sunak will deliver the Spring Budget. With the nations finances in a dire state, many are waiting with bated breath to see whether Rishi Sunak will turn on the spending taps or roll back government spending.

Ahead of the Budget, Julian Jessop, Economics Fellow at the IEA, told The Telegraph: “When it was suggested the furlough scheme might end in April, we were not anticipating the third national lockdown, so there might be a case for extending it.”
