Our educational mission is to improve understanding of the fundamental institutions of a free society by analysing and expounding the role of markets in solving economic and social problems. About the IEA’s funding   

The IEA is funded primarily by donations from individuals, foundations, and companies. It accepts no government funding and does not carry out commissioned research. Its work is also supported by two expendable endowment funds, which had a combined balance of £5.2m at 31 March 2025.  

In 2024-25, the last complete financial year, the IEA received donations totalling £1.3m. A breakdown of these funds by source is shown here.
