In his bi-weekly column for The Times, IEA Director General Mark Littlewood discussed COP26 and the likelihood of an effective agreement on CO2 reduction being reached by world leaders.
Mark said the absence of big polluters, like China, at COP26 and a politically motivated focus on targets rather than outcomes would lead to failure.
Instead, Mark suggested a liberal, market led strategy to tackle climate change which would yield better results:

“If Cop26 embraces proper market pricing, deregulation and open markets, it will amount to a real moment of truth. Sadly, the early signs are not promising.“
