The Financial Times reports a mixed reaction to the Chancellor’s decision to extend the furlough scheme into the last quarter of 2021.
The piece picked up comments from Professor Len Shackleton, Editorial and Research Fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs, in which he said the scheme would trap employees in jobs which would not be viable without government support, meaning people would delay looking for new work in the brief their jobs were secure when in fact they are not.
