Professor Len Shackleton is quoted in The Times responding to the Chancellor’s decision to extend the furlough scheme until March 2021.
Professor Shackleton, Editorial and Research Fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs, said extending the scheme would likely lead to tax increases next year in order to cover the cost of the scheme and that many employees who found themselves furloughed would find their jobs no longer existed when the scheme was rolled up, creating artificial employment.
