As authoritarian populist parties became mainstream and Brexit turned into a never-ending political embarrassment for the UK, populist politicians changed their tone on EU matters. Instead of campaigning against EU membership, they want to reformulate Europe in their own image.
Authoritarian populists are likely to make huge gains in the next EU election, the question is whether they will be able to create a broad-church alliance between those parties in order to have an impact on EU legislation.
