The Biden Administration has threatened to implement retaliatory tariffs on British products, originally planned by Donald Trump, in response to the UK digital service tax (DST).
The US believes the DST is discriminatory towards US tech companies as the tax mainly impacts giants like Amazon, Google and Apple. IEA Economics Fellow Julian Jessop responded to the news saying: “This was entirely predictable. These taxes largely impact US-based firms and the US has a strong case that they are a form of discriminatory tariff in breach of WTO rules”.
