A maximum wage, just like all other eat-the-rich policies, will not help low earners

A report last week by the High Pay Centre and Autonomy calling for the introduction of a national maximum wage received favourable media coverage, and as is often the case with ‘crude anti-liberal, anti-capitalist policies’,  writes the IEA’s Head of Political Economy, Dr Kristian Niemietz.

But what would be the impact of such as policy? Kristian argues that it is ‘very unlikely’ that such a measure would have the desired effect and that ‘you cannot help low earners with knee-jerk eat-the-rich policies.’
