IEA Head of Lifestyle Economics Christopher Snowdon has commented in The Sun on George Osborne’s proposal to ban cigarettes and extend the sugar tax.
Christopher said:
“Prohibition would lead to a crime wave and deprive the government of £12 billion of revenue. Britain has a big enough problem with black market tobacco without the government introducing a total ban on cigarettes.
“This is crazy talk from George Osborne. Perhaps it’s time for him to head off into the sunset, smoke his fags and count his money.”
