IEA research referenced by The Grocer

The Grocer has referenced IEA research on deposit return schemes (DRS).

The DRS aims to encourage people to recycle by making consumers pay a small deposit when they buy a drink in a single-use container and then get the deposit back when they return the empty bottle or can.

Author of the report, IEA Head of Lifestyle Economics Christopher Snowdon, found that the DRS is expected to cost almost £1 billion to set up (and £814 million per annum thereafter) to collect recyclables worth just £37 million in 2019.
