It’s been reported that pressure is building on Chancellor Rishi Sunak to cut taxes to make the most of Brexit and boost economic growth post-Covid.
IEA Editorial and Research Fellow Professor Len Shackleton told the Daily Express that increasing VAT would be misguided and that business rates are “huge and unavoidable burden” for struggling businesses, including “on many types of shops and service businesses which cannot operate normally or are facing much reduced turnover”.
