Commenting on the latest IPCC report on climate change, Andy Mayer, Chief Operating Officer at free market think tank the Institute of Economic Affairs, said:
“The IPCC 6th Assessment report is a welcome update to our understanding on the science behind climate change. What it isn’t is a prescription for policy action on the best ways of resolving climate change.
“Free market environmentalists are optimists. They strongly believe that either with no intervention, or minimal intervention to support coherent price signals on CO2, that climate change can be addressed through human ingenuity.
“Siren calls to use climate science to advance the interests of state or corporate actors seeking more control of our lives should be resisted. These interventions are ineffective, expensive, unfair and self-defeating.”
