A Digital Markets Unit will stifle digital innovation and investment


IEA Research discussed in City AM

IEA research on the proposed Digital Markets Unit (DMU) has been discussed in City AM.

The paper, authored by IEA Head of Regulatory Affairs Victoria Hewson, argues that the DMU, which will be based within the Competition and Markets Authority and charged with regulating digital competition, will discourage investment and damage competition.

Victoria commented:

“Instead of trying to micromanage successful businesses the government should be addressing the barriers to entry faced by challenger firms from regulations like the GDPR.”
