There are numerous example of commentators and activists who have used the pandemic as “a new excuse to peddle their old pet causes”, writes IEA Head of Political Economy Dr Kristian Niemietz.
In an article for CapX, Kristian argues that this “Confirmation Bias-driven psuedo-explanations”, including the idea that “austerity” is to blame for the UK’s poor pandemic response, are false.
Kristian adds: “The only people who can plausibly claim vindication are those who have argued for specific pandemic containment measures that we now know to be effective early on.”
