IEA Economics Fellow Julian Jessop has been quoted in The i arguing that any pre-election tax cuts should be accompanied by spending restraint.

Julian said:

“I don’t think there’s a lot of room for bigger tax cuts funded by bigger cuts in spending. I think the room for tax cuts is basically limited – the headroom is already in the numbers,

“This is one of the things that worries me. We’ve got a situation where these public spending plans are extremely tight and without any detail about how that public spending restraint is going to be delivered.”
