Matthew Lesh, IEA Head of Public Policy, has been quoted extensively in The Express on nationalising water.
Arguing that this would lead to dramatic underinvestment in the industry, Matthew says:
“It’s truly laughable to claim that renationalising water could magically fix all our problems.
“If we nationalise the water companies what’ll happen is water will have to compete with eduction and healthcare, with funding the national debt, all sorts of different things.
“We should actually start by scrutinising what the situation was like prior to privatisation, which is that was significant underinvestment in the system.”
