IEA analyst responds to £200 million Transport for London bailout

Andy Mayer, energy and infrastructure analyst at free market think tank the Institute of Economic Affairs, said:

“With the end of pandemic there is no good reason for the government to continue to subsidise Transport for London’s operating costs. Ending such support by 2018 was the policy of the 2015 administration.

“It is for the London authorities to encourage commuters back onto services, and if they cannot, then service reductions and higher fares must follow.”ENDS
