Government attempts to stop a ‘brain drain’ from our towns to the cities is futile

Attempts by the government to prevent a so called ‘brain drain’ by young people leaving towns to live and work in the city is futile, according to IEA Head of Public Affairs Emma Revell.

In an article for CapX, Emma argued grand plans to make the regions an attractive place for young professionals is not new, but every attempt to facilitate this end has failed.

Emma argued: “Rather than trying to engineer the economy, perhaps ministers should concentrate on improving education, healthcare, and housing across the country and let pseople decide for themselves where they want to live and work“.
