Professor Len Shackleton writes for CapX

The new Business Secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng, has abandoned attempts to de-regulate the labour market. Reacting to the news in CapX, Professor Len Shackleton, Editorial and Research Fellow at the IEA said: “Mr Kwarteng knows perfectly well that most employment ‘rights’ are ultimately paid for by workers themselves in terms of lower pay and fewer job opportunities”.

Shackleton argues that private enterprise can lift us out of a Covid-induced recession, but Ministers must not “acquiesce in restrictions which will hold businesses back”.
