Covid vaccine has ended the need for further lockdowns

IEA Head of Lifestyle Economics, Christopher Snowdon, has penned an op-ed for the New Statesman, welcoming the Covid vaccine roll-out and criticising calls for any further lockdowns. Snowdon highlights that those who call for zero-Covid cases and further lockdowns have moved the goal posts and would have a hard task convincing the public to agree to further restrictions.

Snowdon argues that vaccines are “enough to “protect the NHS”, and therefore to protect us from further lockdowns”, adding his disappointment at the “sluggish” roadmap to end lockdown measures in England. The pace of the easing of restrictions do not, in his view,  “reflect the power of this miraculous medical game-changer”.
