Beyond the campaign slogans to ‘level up’, it is not yet clear exactly which mixture of policies the government will pursue to boost wages and productivity in struggling areas, writes the IEA’s Director General Mark Littlewood in his biweekly column for The Times.

In order to find the right solution to the problems in poorer parts of Britain, author and investor Richard Koch is launching an essay competition today – through the IEA – with a prize of £50,000 for the best idea to supercharge growth, employment and living standards in “left behind Britain”
