In a blog article for Liberal Democrat Voice, Lord William Wallace wrote about the difference of opinion concerning free trade in liberal thought, referencing the work of the Institute of Economics Affairs in championing free trade.

Lord Wallace said: “The economic liberals who left the Liberal Party in the late 1950s to set up the Institute of Economic Affairs still do believe [in free trade].  For them it’s an article of faith as much as their commitment to a smaller state and a deregulated economy“.
