“Pregnant women are not property, and society’s default shouldn’t be that individuals cannot make the “right” lifestyle choices even if presented with the risks” says Annabel Denham, Director of Communications at the Institute of Economic Affairs.

Writing for CapX, Annabel says new guidelines from NICE which suggest recording maternal alcohol consumption, even without a woman’s consent, from the time of conception are an “infringement on [women’s] liberties” and that nanny statist quangos are simply framing their interventions on “spurious public health grounds”.
