Reaction to the launch of the UK Independence Party's Manifesto

Commenting on the UK Independence Party’s manifesto, Mark Littlewood, Director General at the Institute of Economic Affairs, said:

“While UKIP’s commitment to a fully-costed manifesto is commendable, the array of fiddly and populist measures is likely to dampen the benefits to be had from demonstrating fiscal responsibility.

“On spending reductions, UKIP need to be bolder. £32 billion of savings is a starting point but when the deficit is more than double this figure, there is room to go much further.”

Commenting on UKIP’s immigration policy, Mark Littlewood said:

“Imposing a five-year ban on a particular group of people is arbitrary and unfavourable. Through working in the UK unskilled migrants provide an important source of labour to businesses and are able to improve their own lives in the process.

“When it comes to determining who enters the country, we should let the market, not a bureaucrat in Whitehall, decide.”
