Speaker: Sonia Brown, Senior Director of Markets and Economics, Ofwat

Chair and Commentator: Jon Stern, Senior Visiting Fellow, City University London

This lecture will discuss proposals for competition in the Water for Life White Paper, and how Ofwat plans to move competition in the water industry forward. It will discuss some benefits of competition, and outline the work that still needs to be done.

The Beesley Lectures are a series of eight annual lectures covering regulated industries in the UK. The lectures are held in memory of Professor Michael Beesley, who was a leading architect of the British  system of utility regulation and a Managing Trustee of the Institute ofEconomic Affairs. He founded the series in 1991 and organised them until his death in 1999.

Taking place every Thursday between 20th September and 8th November this year, the events will begin with registration at 6.30pm at the Institute of Directors. Delegates are encouraged to network over refreshments until 7pm, when the lecture will commence. An industry-leading speaker will address the audience for one hour and a specialist will give a short response before handing over to the floor for further discussion. Each lecture will end at 8.45pm with refreshments.
