Americans went to the polls on 6 November to choose not only a President, but also to determine control of the Senate and House of Representatives. Their choices will have a major impact on global economic performance. Will the United States continue to over-spend, incurring trillion dollar deficits? Will there be sweeping entitlement reform? Or will there be four years of gridlock? Dan Mitchell will analyse the election results and assess the likely impact on US economic policy and the potential repercussions for the rest of the world.

Dr Daniel Mitchell is a Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute in Washington, DC, where he specializes in fiscal policy. Dan’s work has been published in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Washington Times, Washington Post, National Review, Villanova Law Review, Public Choice, Journal of Regulation and Social Cost, Emory Law Journal, Forbes, USA Today, Offshore Investment, Playboy and Investor’s Business Daily. He has appeared on all the major networks, including CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and C-SPAN. Prior to joining Cato, Dan worked for the Heritage Foundation, Senator Bob Packwood and Citizens for a Sound Economy, and he earned a Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University and Batchelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Georgia.
