Discussion: Should supporters of free markets support Britain’s continuing membership of the EU?

The IEA is delighted to invite you to a panel discussion examining the free market case for the UK staying in or leaving the EU.

The discussion will focus exclusively on the economic arguments, putting aside issues such as sovereignty, culture, and democratic legitimacy.

Arguing that free marketeers should support Brexit will be:

  • Douglas Carswell, UKIP MP for Clacton

  • Ryan Bourne, Head of Public Policy, IEA


Arguing that free market supporters should also support remaining in the EU will be:

  • John Stevens, former Conservative MEP; co-founder of the Pro-Euro Conservative Party (PECP); Senior Research Fellow, Global Policy Institute
