Regressive VAT taxes harm the poor


Christopher Snowdon quoted by the House of Lords Library

IEA Head of Lifestyle Economics Christopher Snowdon has been quoted in a House of Lords Library paper on VAT’s 50th anniversary.


The House of Lords Library wrote:

“In 2013 the Institute for Economic Affairs researcher Christopher Snowdon made a similar critique, claiming that ‘the poorest income group spends twice as much on sin taxes and VAT than the wealthiest income group as a proportion of their income.’”
