Many of the proposals advocated by anti-gambling campaigns for tighter restrictions on online betting amount to “a form of neo-prohibition”, writes Annabel Denham, the IEA’s Director of Communications.

In an article for Spiked, Annabel cites research from a new IEA report showing that the number of gamblers in Britain has not risen in the last decade and that online gambling has risen only because of a broader trend of using online services.

Annabel argues that the government should seek to formalise already existing best practice, rather than introduce the draconian measures as advocated by campaigners.
