IEA Head of Political Economy Kristian Niemietz has been quoted in The Daily Telegraph commenting on backlash to proposals to expand the All-England Club.

Kristian said:

“By prioritising the right to object over the right to build, Britain’s burdensome planning system has already made housing unaffordable, kicked vital infrastructure like reservoirs into the long grass, and stunted efforts to get energy bills down. It is sadly no surprise that even cherished British institutions like Wimbledon are not spared the consequences.

“The Wimbledon proposal is just the latest addition to the countless number of projects across the country suppressed by the planning system. There is plenty of appetite to build. To get these projects moving, we need to reduce the absurdly high political roadblocks standing in the way.”
