Mark Littlewood, IEA Director General, has commented in the Telegraph on the pervasive anti-wealth attitude seen in the UK.

Mark argues that, unlike in the United States, UK politicians are bound by public opinion to underplay their wealth, a practice which Mark believes discourages ambition.

“We need to get away from the corrosive and widespread assumption that those who have accrued substantial wealth must have done so by dubious means.”

“Over here, politicians are supposed to use every available opportunity to stress how poor they are and how little money they’ve made in their careers. This hair-shirted behaviour is a recipe for mediocrity in British politics.”
