Christopher Snowdon, IEA Head of Lifestyle Economics, has commented for The Telegraph on the NHS backlog, which could see as many as 14 million on waiting lists.

Christopher argued that:

“People who have private medical insurance effectively pay for the healthcare of themselves and for someone else. The more people can be encouraged to get private cover, the lower the burden on the NHS.”

“Using the tax system to incentivise greater uptake of private healthcare could easily reduce NHS costs and lower the overall tax burden.”
