As Mark highlights, the Protocol is having a detrimental impact on Northern Ireland’s economy and costing an estimated £850 million per annum.
“If the UK government acts this week to remedy the unfolding economic disaster of the protocol, its critics will claim it is “ripping up the treaty” or “ignoring international law”. Actually, the treaty provides for unilateral action if the application of the protocol leads to serious economic, societal or environmental difficulties or to the diversion of trade.”
