The government must not accept Britain’s chronic low growth


Julian Jessop quoted in The Express

IEA Economics Fellow Julian Jessop has been quoted in The Daily Express responding to January’s GDP figures, which showed the UK economy grew by a modest 0.3 per cent.

Julian said:

“Any growth is welcome, but the 0.3 per cent increase in economic activity in January is little to cheer.”

Ahead of the budget on 15th March, Julian urged the Chancellor to deliver tax relief from the cost-of-living crisis and implement pro-growth policies:

“The Chancellor should use all of his fiscal firepower in next week’s Budget to support households and businesses, rather than snuff out the recovery with more tax increases.”
