Christopher Snowdon quoted in Scottish Licensed Trade News

IEA Head of Lifestyle Economics Christopher Snowdon has been quoted in Scottish Licensed Trade News, reacting to Public Health Scotland’s latest publication evaluating MUP.

Christopher said:

“The evaluation is a “whitewash”, there has been no impact on A&E attendances or crime. While MUP was supposed to reduce alcohol consumption among those drinking at harmful levels, that simply did not happen.

“Alcohol-related deaths in Scotland are at their highest level in over a decade and remain much higher than in England. (‘Alcohol-specific deaths’ in Scotland increased from 20.8 per 100,000 in 2018 to 22.4 per 100,000 in 2021.)”
