IEA Head of Lifestyle Economics Christopher Snowdon has appeared on talkTV to discuss claims that rising obesity is powering increased health spending.

Christopher said:

“Yesterday, the figures came out showing how much we are spending on the NHS. Last year, it was £230 billion – well over £3,000 per person – we seem to be spending less than half of that [on obesity].

“You get these studies every now and again; the idea is, I think, to make people who are not obese think that other peoples’ weight is their concern and that we should bring in all sorts of policies to try to do something about it.”
