IEA Economics Fellow Julian Jessop has been quoted in The Daily Mail criticising the International Monetary Fund’s warning that the British government should have avoided a recent cut to National Insurance.

Julian said:

“The UK government is free to ignore the IMF’s advice and is surely right to do so here.

“The cuts in National Insurance are helping to rebalance the tax burden away from taxes on work.

“They should therefore boost the sustainable growth rate of the economy, which is key to improving the public finances over the longer term.”
