Government must be realistic about how many Covid rules the public will abide

Annabel Denham, IEA Director of Communications, has written a piece for The Spectator on the potential for public non-compliance to undermine recently introduced Covid restrictions.

As Annabel points out, resistance to the measures would come as little surprise.

“Millions of people obeyed the rules and received their jab believing this would make draconian restrictions unnecessary. They may not mind masks, but they’ll be miffed if told this isn’t true.”

“But some will disregard the rules out of economic necessity… Plan B alone could easily knock 2 per cent off GDP — costing the UK economy a billion pounds a week — and force the taxpayer to stump up billions more to prevent a new wave of bankruptcies and job losses.”
