Annabel argued that “Politicians should be trying to facilitate new jobs, not create them from thin air or identify novel ways to tighten the cilice on businesses. National insurance hikes, and the continuation of the failing Apprentice Levy, raise the costs of employing people directly. By some estimates, the direct cost of running HR departments is now likely to be over £15bn a year.”
