British bureaucracy has let down Ukrainian refugees

In her weekly column for The Spectator, IEA Director of Communications Annabel Denham criticised “British nit-picking bureaucracy” for preventing Ukrainian refugees access to accomodation in the UK.

Regulation on housing standards has forced councils to reject properties registered to the Homes for Ukrainian scheme on the ground that plug sockets are too low or the building has the wrong type of plaster on their ceilings.

Annabel argued: “The government ought to be straining every sinew to get the Ukrainian people out of danger as quickly as possible. At the very least, the standards that would normally apply to renting a property ought to be loosened in the interest of accelerating their exit from a war zone.
