The question of which healthcare systems have coped best with the coronavirus is a crucial one, but “the sacred status of the NHS” will likely prohibit discussions over potential reform in the UK, says the IEA’s Head of Political Economy, Dr Kristian Niemietz.

Writing for The Sunday Telegraph, Kristian argues that “mixed economy systems, which use a combination of private and public provision” have an edge over monolithic, monopolistic NHS-type systems.
