IEA Chief Operating Officer, Andy Mayer, responded to reports that the Prime Minister Boris Johnson is to announce that all electricity will be powered by green renewable energy by 2035.
Andy was quoted in City AM saying that “Unless Boris Johnson has a credible plan for fossil fuel back-up on the days the wind isn’t blowing, this is deeply unwise virtue signalling ahead of COP26“. Andy added that the plan would worsen the ensuing gas crisis by undermining confidence in the market and could risk blackouts across the UK.
