Amanda Pritchard, the Head of NHS England, has been widely disparaged for her incorrect claim that “We have had 14 times the number of people in hospital with Covid-19 than we saw this time last year”. In actuality, the number of people currently hospitalised with Covid is almost 3000 less than November last year.

Christopher Snowdon, the Head of Lifestyle Economics at the IEA, expressed his disbelief at Pritchard’s miscalculation, commenting that her assertion “is so wildly off-the-scale wrong you wonder whether someone misheard her”.
