IEA publication Alcohol Advertising: What does the evidence show? has been mentioned in Just Drinks arguing that the SNP’s plans to ban alcohol advertisements won’t reduce alcohol consumption.

“A new report published by UK free-market think tank the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) suggested there is a lack of evidence to support a ban on alcohol advertising.

“The study was conducted and published in response to the Scottish government’s plans to curb adverts.

“In April, Scotland’s First Minister, Humza Yousaf, sent plans for new alcohol advertising rules ‘back to the drawing board’  and announced a consultation.

“The IEA’s report was welcomed by trade body the Wine & Spirit Trade Association.”
