Unhealthy Finances – Are tax hikes the answer to covid spending?

The Resolution Foundation have published a report, “Unhealthy Finances”, which speaks to understand what support the economy currently requires and how to repair the public finances post-pandemic.

The report proposed tax hikes, rather than spending cuts, amounting to around £40bn, beginning in 2023-24, as well as a new Health and Social Care levy. But is this the best solution?

Mark Littlewood, IEA Director-General, is joined by three prominent think tankers to get their responses.

Panel:

Tom Clougherty, Head of Tax at the Centre for Policy Studies

Matthew Lesh, Head of Research at the Adam Smith Institute

Duncan Simpson, Research Director at The Taxpayers’ Alliance
