We’re joined by the Institute of Economic Affairs’s Head of Education Dr Steve Davies to discuss: The Realignment of Modern Politics.
Hosted by the IEA’s Digital Officer Madeline Grant, Steve begins by talking us through his thesis of the realignment of modern politics in the West. Steve explains how the rise of populism and nationalism is putting pressures on the traditional left/right spectrum, as the opposition to populists are globalists on both sides of the aisle.
Steve and Madeline discuss how Brexit specifically has hastened the realignment process in the UK, and how Donald Trump’s America might experience a change in party loyalty.
Steve ends by discussing the future for libertarianism in such a political climate, making the prediction that in the short-term the philosophy will find difficulties, but how in the medium-term the realignment could prove very useful to free-market thinkers.
