Monumental decision: Should statues be toppled?

In recent weeks we have seen the resurgence of a debate around the appropriateness of statues in public places. Edward Colston was thrown in a river, a campaign is afoot to remove Cecil Rhodes. In Germany, a far-left party has unveiled a public statue of Lenin, to furious protest.

In the UK, this began as an outcry against symbols of racism triggered by the murder of George Floyd. It has led to charged debate over the proper way to judge historical figures that has drawn in a number of politicians.

IEA Academic and Research Director Professor Syed Kamall is joined by Alex Deane and Dr Stephen Davies to discuss this movement and responses to it.
