The NHS is facing an impending staffing crisis owing to a shortage of doctors.

This situation would be problematic enough under normal circumstances, but when considering the gargantuan backlog of patients awaiting treatment, plus the heightened demand caused by the pandemic, it could be disastrous.

Mark Tovey, the recent author of an IEA report on the issue, thinks that the NHS may well be “sleepwalking into a perfect storm” and offers three simple solutions to this looming crisis. Will this be enough, or is more system-wide reform needed?

The Zoom discussion will feature three invited guests, followed by a Q&A. Questions from the audience are encouraged so sign up to confirm your place here.

Panel:
Emma Revell, IEA Head of Public Affairs (Chair)

Mark Tovey, author of “Is there a doctor in the house?”

Paul Bristow MP, Conservative MP for Peterborough and member of the Health Select Committee

Dr Kristian Niemietz, IEA Head of Political Economy and author of “Universal Healthcare Without the NHS”
