The China Model: Is it a Golden Formula?


Since embarking on a programme of market liberalisation in 1979, China has experienced rapid economic growth. Nevertheless, the Chinese economy is still subject to a high degree of state intervention and political freedom is largely absent. This lecture discusses whether the Chinese economic model is sustainable in the long-term.
