    This seems to be yet another example of regulators, central planners, politicians, etc. not thinking it worth taking the trouble to consult end-users before imposing their brilliant ideas. In the perennial conflict between governments and markets it really is worth bearing in mind that in most markets failing to worry about customers would mean going out of business. Not so in government. Douglas Jay’s famous motto: ‘The gentleman in Whitehall really does know better…’ is more relevant than ever.
